Brick Sculpture
Brick Sofa commissioned by Exeter Health Care Arts for the main entrance to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital at Wonford, Exeter. The work is part of a series of artworks commissioned to improve the environment of the Hospital and to promote a healthy lifestyle. The sofa is decorated with a pattern created out of flowers whose petals are tiny representations of the internal organs of the chest, nicknamed a lungflower. The work and its impact is part of an evaluation and research project being carried out by Arts for Health at the Faculty of Arts and Design, Manchester Metropolitan University.
Ceramics in Society Magazine Article: “Art in the Hospital does it make sense? “This kind of commission is highly successful. It is enjoyed by most passers-by for its wit and simple effectiveness. It is a simple, arresting object and, of course, it can be sat on.
